Macy Lipman, a retired music entrepreneur, founded the first independent marketing company in the recording industry. He managed marketing campaigns for scores of top recording artists. "These were the 'golden years of rock'n roll.' But I still continued to paint during that time. In my early career in music, I came across an English group called 'The Searchers' and released a song called 'Love Potion #9' which became a big hit world wide. I moved from New York to Los Angeles and, soon after, had success with a group called the '5th Dimension'. They won a Grammy for 'Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In." After almost thirty years in the recording industry, Macey closed his business to pursue his other life long passion of painting. As a child, his mother bought him his first starter set of oils and he became hooked on painting. Although, he had no formal training, over the years, he learned by making mistakes and being willing to correct them. Today, Macey is a fine, accomplished realistic painter. For many years, he would not offer his work for sale until in November of 2002 he had the first exhibit of his paintings. Each one of Macey's paintings has its origin in a photographic source. He has commented that "I share a passion for photography and painting ..... but photography is a means to an end. The final cut is the painting itself, and the story is reborn from the lens to the tip of the brush. It's what I refer to as classical realism." Travels through Venice and Tuscany, wine country and the world of viticulture are some of the recurring motifs found in Macey's paintings. Another theme is pictures of reflections found hidden in windows and mirrors, suggesting that "we are a component of our environment....integrated into the landscape without being physically conscious of it." Many of Macey's paintings have a great deal of painterly qualities and techniques. The paintings that have millions of dots - a-la-Seurat - take an average of six months to a year and a half to complete.
