The energy and color of Nancy Peacock's acrylic paintings on canvas capture the very essence of her subject matter: Jazz. From the first commissions for a jazz club in Seattle fifteen years ago to her charged ensembles on canvas today, Nancy has found that audiences respond to her painting as enthusiastically as they do the music. Born in New York City, Nancy is largely self taught but has studied wood block printing in Japan before moving to the Pacific Northwest. Growing up in New York City, Nancy and her family were interested in the music world and experienced live jazz bands on a regular basis becoming familar with the music of many great jazz musicians of the 60's. Marriage for thirteen years to jazz musician, Gary Peacock, a bassist ("the man who changed the role of the bass in western music" Leonard Feather: Who's Who in Jazz in the 60's) immersed her further into the wolrd of jazz. In 1982 on a thirty five day concert tour with her husband,Gary, Ralph Towner, and Jerry Granelli, Nancy began drawing the musicians in action. In Paris, Jazz Hat Magazine published some of her sketches and a career was launched to include album covers and other jazz magazines. Today, Nancy stays occupied trying to capture the changing face of jazz, creating CD covers, murals, billboards and other commissions. She draws twenty to fifty sketches of musicians in action during an evening translating them the next day to acrylic paintings on canvas. Nancy Peacock's jazz inspired paintings capture the power, the passion and style of jazz as well as the musicians who perform. Her works have been featured regularly on BET television's Jazz Scene. The striking use of color and texture illustrates a vibrancy that reaches out from the canvas and touches the viewer. Her works continue to touch and inspire music lovers and art lovers. |
